<p align="justify"><br />Residents of Bursledon, Swanwick and Warsash beware, pirates have been sighted in the Solent, heading up the River Hamble to find treasure in Bursledon Pool. Polish your cutlasses and come and join the fun with Blackbeard, Captain Hook, Long John Silver and their meddling crews at this year's Regatta!!</p>
<p align="justify">Now in its <strong>139th</strong> year the Bursledon Regatta has it's origins in the friendly rivalry that existed between fishermen, yachtsman and watermen of the River Hamble, who organised races amonst themselves during the last century. The annual event gained distinguished Regatta status with the title <strong>SWANWICK, BURSLEDON and WARSASH REGATTA</strong> organised by representatives from the three famous waterside villages. </p>
<p align="justify"><a id="image" href="http://www.bursledonregatta.co.uk/showpicture.php?image=thumb_jk gaffer.jpg"><img style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #fcc89e; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: #fcc89e; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #fcc89e; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: #fcc89e" height="191" alt="Click for larger image" hspace="10" width="120" align="left" vspace="10" border="1" src="http://www.bursledonregatta.co.uk/images/thumbs/thumb_jk%20gaffer.jpg" /></a><br />Until recent years both sailing and pulling races started and finished in Busledon Pool, but due to increases of moorings and traffic on the Hamble River the sailing races for larger craft are now organised from a committee boat in Southampton Water with courses laid in the Solent. Classes for sailing Dinghies, however still start and finish at Bursledon.</p>
<p align="justify">The Regatta is organised and run by a committee of local people still representing the three villages - and relies on funds from the generous support given by well-wishers to finance the not inconsiderable expenses involved.</p>
<p align="justify">The unique atmosphere of the Bursledon Regatta has been gently nurtured over the years and we hope you enjoy the experience and will help us perpetuate one of the few traditional village Regattas remaining.</p>
<p align="justify"><strong>Saturday Afternoon & Evening<br /></strong>This year's Regatta will take place on Saturday 29th August with all the usual fun and games; Canoe races, rowing and swimming races, Fancy Dress, Tea Tent, Bar, Barbecue, Whisky and Champagne raffle, Tombola and Pirate Floats competion to mention but a few! In the evening, we will have a children's torchlight procession in Bursledon Pool followed by our renowned Regatta firework display,</p>
<p align="justify"><strong>Sunday Yacht Racing<br /></strong>The yacht races will take place on Sunday morning, with a prize giving and barbecue in the late afternoon. This will enable the Race officer to set more ambitious courses. </p>
<p align="justify"><strong>Gig Racing<br /></strong>Now with an established fleet of over 11 Gig boats, the Bursledon Regatta hopes to provide an exciting finale race to the series of races that have run this season.
