Be part of something NEW and very, very worthwhile.
The first Hamble River Raid.
The start of an annual tradition.
Why?
What’s it about?
A pulling race up or down the River Hamble in gigs manned by the appropriate crew (hopefully 4) and a coxswain. From the start the crews will call on various locations to pick up markers relevant to their teams for presentation and counting at the finish.
Where do I get a boat?
The Scout group has a selection of pulling boats that can be pooled for teams lacking craft, but upon discussion with other River notables it is apparent that the local favoured craft would be the Bursledon gig and it is hoped that in due course a one-design will emerge in this form. Hull mouldings for your own fit out (only £550.00) can be obtained from John Foulkes on 07876 683038. There are numerous boat builders on the river who will trim it out if you don’t want to do it yourself.
The Scout boats will be supplied to youth teams to get them on the water and will race in a separate class. Your boat will not be restricted to this one event, but can be entered for both the Hamble week regatta and the Burseldon regatta. It will encourage team spirit within your own organisation and can be used for picnics up river in the summer.
True messing about on the river stuff! an investment you can enjoy!
How much to enter?
There will be no entry fee but the aim is to raise money for the Scout Group equipment and cover the costs. It would be anticipated that each team will raise sponsorship, with the first £100.00 from each team going to the organising charity and further funds raised would be split 50:50 with the Hamble Scout fund and a charity of the participating teams choice. Sponsorship forms will be sent out on registration.
Why should we support the local Scouts?
We are looking for as much help, both practical and fiscal to keep the 6th Itchen South (Hamble) Sea Scouts with a roof over their heads. The present roof needs to be replaced and costs are estimated at £20.000.00 plus. Expenses are always on going but extremely worthwhile. Your local Sea Scout Group entertains, educates and trains over 70 young local youths. These young people are part of your community and could one day be part of your team. What you put in now will reap dividends in the future.
We would like companies, practices, clubs and associations, pubs and restaurants to gather together a team to compete in this fantastic local initiative. This is a chance to help local youngsters, to raise your profile and increase awareness of your services.
It is a great chance to create team building within your own organisation in a fun and hugely enjoyable way. It is an inexpensive way to bring cohesion, loyalty and a sense of belonging not only to your business but to the community as a whole.
